First frost on the lower meadow
The meadow was white at seven and green again by nine. Two herons stood in the shallows below the weir, hunched like old men waiting for a bus, and did not move for the whole time I was there.
The kingfisher was back on the alder branch. I have now seen it on four mornings out of six, always within ten minutes of sunrise.
